Important Information

Melanesia Gate is accessed via Hiders Road Access Track and provides convenient access to sections of the Great Ocean Walk.
The Great Ocean Walk is a one-way walking trail stretching approximately 110 kilometres between Apollo Bay and the Twelve Apostles. Because the walk finishes many kilometres from where it begins, most walkers require transport either to the start of their walk or back to their vehicle at the end of their adventure.
All Great Ocean Walk hike-in campsites must be booked in advance. Camping is only permitted at designated campsites, and bookings are essential before starting your walk.
Weather conditions can change quickly along the Great Ocean Walk. We recommend carrying warm clothing, waterproof gear, sufficient food and water, and checking tide times before walking any beach sections.
